This race is always one of my favorites, it’s the first fall feeling run of the season and usually is a race I’m really well-trained for….I say usually.
This year was the 21st running of the Arc races which support Arc Of Onondaga which does great work for those with disabilities in our community. Including offerings of trainings, inclusion and community.
This year I had plans to run the half marathon but have been having some other health issues which kept me to the 5k level, no big deal but still a little crushing when you had other plans.
I met up with Annmarie Fitfoodiemama who was killin’ it in the half marathon and we of course had a photo opp with the Iced Coffee Man…I mean it is the Dunkin Run…you can smell the sweet scent of coffee as soon as you arrive, You MUST have your photo taken with the man himself.
The half Marathon kicked off first so I patiently waited around for 10 minutes until the 5k started. I felt like the 5k was a smaller race than the half…and trust me I wanted to be in that half start line.
One thing about this race that sets in completely apart from others are the runners in tandem. Volunteers pushing those with needs through the race and across the finish line…want to be motivated? Just check out these runners giving it their ALL, amazing!
My race was pretty lackluster. I started off right where I wanted to be (8:15) and held strong right (8:23) till 2/5 miles then I just had no energy to hold it. I still finished 29.01 which is respectable but nowhere near the sub 26 I really had my sights on this year. Maybe my quick start was too quick for the lack of training I’ve been running this month…lesson learned.
I’m hoping to get back in with a running group that really seemed to help push me out of my running comfort zone, and it will give me a do-able goal for next race season. I know I need more sprint work and track workouts but dang I need the sun to come up earlier to have time for those with my current schedule.
No worries it’s all do-able!
Let’s talk thought about these medals though! Seriously some of the best medals I’ve ever received. Super cute, and VERY colorful. Who ever was in charge of those KUDOS! They Rock!
Question of the Day: Do you have a favorite race medal?
